My First Canvas

OK....so this is my first BIG adventure with Canvas and Vinyl. I'm pretty excited with how it turned out, and see endless possibilities with the mixed media. I'm already starting to work on round 2! :-)So here it goes. I realised the other day that we have nothing on the walls in our bedroom, that needs to change!

I bought 3 5x7 canvases from Micheals (I think), I wanted to start small and see how it went.

Then I gathered my paint colors. The colors in our room are khaki, red, and blue...I added the metallic gold just to lighten it up a bit.

First I painted all the canvases in the khaki color as a base coat.

After that I did random swipes of the other three colors. I used a paper towel to help fade the colors so that they weren't too intense. I wanted a washed or faded look to the colors so that they all blended and worked together without being too overpowering.






The one on the far right was my first one....as you can see the red got to be a bit much, but once you see the end you'll see it won't matter....or you can always go back and add more of the neutral color.


Next I used my DS and the Songbird cart to make the words I wanted at the sizes that I wanted. I chose Faith, Hope, Love. Once I got them all set, I put them on one cut screen in DS and cut them on paper first to make sure I liked the look.
Now that it was ready to go....I loaded up my black vinyl (I get mine from craftvinyl.com) and let it cut. Once cut I added them to the finished canvases. They are currently up on the wall in my bedroom. They are small on the wall since this was a trial....so I still need to work on the wall but I think they came out really well!!

I think this kind of project has alot of potential and that's what is most exciting!! If you haven't tried vinyl yet, I think you should!! You may surprise yourself!!

Gobble Till you Wobble Treats!!

So here is what I think is going to be the last Thanksgiving treat for this year!! I was inspired for this project by another blog, but now can't find it....so I had to change it around to make it work for me!!

I used Honey Buns, but I really think you could use any round, wrapped, treat. I used Animal Kingdom Cart for the Turkey head. I used my DS to make it the deminsions that I needed it to be to fit on the Honey Bun... it's about 3x3.

I couldn't find any good feathers to use for the back of the turkey....then I though, duh!! REAL feathers :-) So me and my 40% off coupon headed to Joanns!! They even had like a "turkey" colored pack with reds, oranges, and yellows.

I used my craft glue on the back to attach the feathers and then let it dry. After they were dry I just used square mounts to stick the turkey head to the front....and wamo!! turkey treats. I think the girls at work will like these....any time I come it with treats they usually attack me as I come in the door!!

Sleeping Baby Sign

So things are starting to pick up in the project department. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas projects (not to mention things have to be done earlier this year because everything has to be mailed across the country) the cricut has been doing overtime!!

In the middle of all that some of our friends here just had their 2nd little girl. So I've made two dinners, a desert, and a breakfast for them. I also worked on this the other night and finally finished it today.

I used Home Accent Essentials to do the big scalloped circles, the white is at 11 inches and the brown at 10".I used Lyrical Letters to do the words, I welded them and sized them to fit perfectly in DS. Then I used the baby on Stretch you Imagination and fixed her to be the size I needed in DS. I punched holes in it before I had it laminated so that it would be easier to punch out after. Then I tied the pink ribbon with white polka dots so that It could be hung.

The only thing I would add/change about this project, I would have put the babys name and birthday or something like that on the back....but once it's laminated it's done :-) So just a note to myself for next time.

Just one more thought for tonight....The more I work with my DS the more I have to tell you it's worth the money. Now that Provo craft is all about Gypsy you can get DS at a really good price if you look. I LOVE it!!

Joann Paper Sale

Have you ever noticed when Joanns has good coupons, everything is on sale...so you can't use them?? Joanns is in the next town over, so I only go when they are having a big sale, or I have good coupons to use, and I usually take the Joann and Michaels coupons and get more bang for my buck :-)

I went today for the paper sale. 5 for $.95. I've been working on some projects and needed to restock. So back to my coupon. Since almost everything over in the scrapbook section was on sale, I had to look pretty hard to find something to use my coupon on....and I think I've found a new "gem" in my scrapbooking collection. It's called Shimmer Spray, it's in the same section as the Tim Holtz stuff. I know that there are other things like this out there....but this is the first time I've used anything like it...and I love it. It comes in a couple different color packs, I got frost and sparkle....pretty everyday kinda colors.

I wanted to make a card for some friends the live far away from us and use my new spray. Sometimes you sit down and it just comes to you right?? I used my new Simply Charmed Cart and made a 3" sunshine, shadow and sunglasses. The misted it. I put the paper on an old rag to catch the overspray. It was like 4 sprays an we are good to go. I should have done a few "warm-up" sprays in the sink to help it out, but over all LOVE it. I let it dry about 5 mins before I messed with it. The glitter holds up pretty well, I hate it when I glitter one thing and it ends up all over the house :-)

After I got my sun all worked out, I used my DS again (which I'm really falling in love with), to make my words using Plantin Schoolbook. Attached my words. Then used 3-D dots for my sun...and done :-)

Simple...but cheery none the less!

Animal Book

So this is a project that I've been wanting to do for a while, it just took time to get the inspiration (and the Animal Kingdom Cart to go on sale :-). To be honest I'm super excited with out it turned out!!

I used Boxes, Bags, and Tags to make the tags at 7" with the hole. Then I used the Animal Kingdom Cart at 3" (I think) to make the animals, and last I used Lyrical Letters Cart to make the words. I formed all my words and welded them in DS.

This was my first time using my DS too!! which was so much fun...and the fact that all the work is done and saved and I can print them out again is awesome!! I made all the words 3" x 3" in DS so I knew they would fit. I also picked animals that had small names so that you could see them in that 3" x 3" size.

I'm going to have it laminated and then do a ring to keep all the cards together!! I'm going to get another one put together for my Etsy site, so if you are interested be on the look out, or shoot me an e-mail if you want something custom!

I was so happy with the way the Halloween buckets came out using the vinyl with my cricut, I've ordered some more last night so be on the look out for those Christmas projects...my creative mind has been working overtime.
